How to Choose the Right Type of Fence Panel for Your Home

Fencing has long served as a privacy and security installation. If you wanted to mask a street view, block the chilly wind, or secure your pool, a fence will come in handy. However, today fence panels have gone beyond the traditional uses to incorporate some aesthetic functions as well. This means you need to look at the design of the fence panel and how well it matches your landscape before making the purchase decision. This article discusses the various types of fence panels available in the market today.

Palisade Fences

These are also known as picket fences and can be easily identified by their evenly spaced and neat vertical boards. They are mainly installed in front gardens as a decorative boundary. The spaces between the boards may be slightly larger and can allow smaller pets to get in and out, but can provide a safe boundary for larger pets and children. The traditional material for constructing picket fences is wood, but now PVC picket fences are available, giving you the benefit of a low maintenance finish.

Closeboard Fences

These are usually constructed for privacy purposes and consist of overlapping vertical feather-edge boards. Every board is nailed to horizontal rails known as arris rails, which are in turn supported by notched posts. The advantage of these fences lies in their strength and height, which is normally 6 feet, although it can be varied. They are mostly used in rear gardens to provide a secure and private boundary.

Composite Fence Panels

There is a growing popularity for composite wood fencing mainly because it offers a low maintenance option to boundary fencing. Inasmuch as composite fence panels are a little bit expensive compared to the rest, they have no burden at all when it comes to maintenance and do not share in the problems associated with traditional wooden fences. They can serve you up to 20 years without splitting or splintering.

Trellis Fencing

Trellis fencing, when installed around your garden, can serve a number of purposes. For instance, it can be added at the top of other fences to act as a barrier for burglars and trespassers. It can also be attached to the sides of other fence panels to provide a support for climbing plants. If you want to enclose certain areas or create distinct spaces within your garden, trellis fence panels can be an excellent option.
